Theatre isn’t for the elite — it’s for the expressive. People with guts, opinions and a voice. It’s for the young. That’s why the Playhouse places such importance on reaching out and educating area youth. Every year, the Playhouse touches more than 60,000 young people with programs such as outreach tours, student matinees, The Rosenthal Next Generation Theatre Series, acting classes and more.
The Playhouse’s Education Department prides itself on the tremendous variety of services it provides to young people and families each season. Our Rosenthal Next Generation Theatre Series presents some of the most innovative performers from around the country. Through our intern program, eight of the country’s most talented young men and women spend a season at the Playhouse performing for schools throughout the Tri-state area, as well as learning from our artists in workshops and by appearing on our mainstage. Our teaching artists work in the schools preparing students and teachers for our matinee series and learning to use drama to explore the academic curriculum. Evening, weekend and summer classes offer theatre skills to children and adults of all ages. Our full range of programming entertains, educates and celebrates our diverse community.
