Experience Arts All Over the City During Macy's Arts Sampler
This year, there will be three Saturdays for families, friends and neighbors to connect with one another and experience the arts through free events all over the city during Macy's Arts Sampler, brought to you by ArtsWave.
The Playhouse has planned a fun schedule of activities. Make sure you don't miss these exciting free events!
Saturday, February 11
9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Backstage tours – Tour the Marx Theatre and backstage areas in this fascinating 30-minute tour. All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
In a Fool's Kitchen
Featuring Z Puppets Rosenschnoz
Marx Theatre — Presented as part of the Rosenthal Next Generation Theatre Series. A comic battle ensues when a French chef, set to open a new restaurant, finds himself thwarted by the main course, a mischievous lobster staging a hilarious rebellion. A few unruly vegetables and young audience participants spice up the action. Set to live accordion music, In a Fool's Kitchen takes a recipe of zany puppets and clowns and combines them with riotous acts of imagination and playful audience interaction to create a feast of pure fun. Recommended for ages 4 and up.
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Creative Dramatics for Children
Ongoing session of acting games and exercises. Recommended for ages 4 to 12.
12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 pm
Scene Shop Tours – This special tour will be a behind-the-scenes visit to see how sets are built, painted and decorated at the Playhouse. The scene shop is located at 2827 Gilbert Avenue, across from Thomson MacConnell Cadillac. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Offered only at Sampler Weekend!
The Saturdays include Feb. 11, Feb. 25 and March 10. To find events in your neighborhood, visit www.theartswave.org.
Playhouse Perspectives
Intensify your theatre experience by attending Playhouse Perspectives, our free pre-show lecture series featuring scholars, panelists and theatre artists who examine issues related to the performance. You don't need a ticket to the performance to attend these discussions (but we think you'll want one). Playhouse Perspectives is made possible by a gift from Roderick and Barbara Barr.
