CLASSES

PLAYHOUSE ACTING CLASSES

At the Playhouse, we believe everyone has a voice. Our acting classes are designed to build confidence, strengthen communication skills and develop a sense of ensemble and community. Programs for young people ages 3 to 14 focus on individual and collective skill development in a fun and supportive environment. We also offer select adult workshops throughout the season.

Creativenture Classes
Our 30-minute classes for children ages 3 and 4 focus on social and artistic development through improvisation, theatre games and a visual art component. We teach students how to band together as an ensemble and use their voices, bodies and imaginations to create complex tales and characters. Stories will be shared with families on the final day of class.

Dramaventure Classes
Our 45-minute classes for young performers in kindergarten through third grade focus on social and artistic development through creative dramatics, improvisation and theatre games. We teach students how to band together as an ensemble and use their voices, bodies and imaginations to create complex tales and characters. Stories will be shared with families on the final day of class.

Actor Quest Classes
Our 55-minute classes for young performers in fourth through eighth grades focus on developing the craft and technique of acting, as well as specialty subjects including voice, movement, improvisation, stage combat and makeup through fun exploration and ensemble building. We value process over product as young actors develop their skills and confidence. Class work will be shared with families on the final day of class.

Adult Workshops
Our adult workshops offer an opportunity for audiences to enhance their experience with select productions. We seek to create an environment that fosters curiosity, conversation and personal discovery. Please check back soon for upcoming adult workshops.

ERMA BOMBECK MEMOIR WRITING WORKSHOP
May 20, 2017, from 10 a.m. to noon

Start your very own memoir at this two-hour adult workshop! Access your inner Erma Bombeck with author Katrina Kittle, who will share writing strategies that will help you get to the core of your own story.

BioKatrina Kittle is the author of four books for adults — Traveling Light, Two Truths and a Lie, The Kindness of Strangers and The Blessings of the Animals — and one novel for tweens, Reasons to Be Happy. The Kindness of Strangers was the winner of the 2006 Great Lakes Book Award for Fiction. A former middle school and high school English and theatre teacher, Katrina now teaches creative writing workshops for all ages, as well as offering private coaching and manuscript evaluations. She is a lifelong fan of Erma Bombeck’s work and has been honored to be on faculty twice for the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop held at the University of Dayton. She is a public speaker, most often leading her “Leap and the Net Will Appear” and “Practicing Happiness” workshops. Katrina lives south of Dayton with her fella, her odd cat Joey, her sweet beagle Ryley and her out-of-control garden. She has a thing for goats, gardening and going barefoot; and is addicted to coffee, pedicures and movies. You can find out more at katrinakittle.com and by visiting her author page on Facebook.
