Playhouse Acting Classes and Workshops

At the Playhouse, we believe everyone has a voice. Our acting classes are designed to build confidence, strengthen communication skills and develop a sense of ensemble and community. Programs for young people ages 3 to 14 focus on individual and collective skill development in a fun and supportive environment. We also offer select adult workshops throughout the season.

*Each tuition includes a $25, non-refundable registration fee. Cancellations prior to the first day of class will be honored with a refund, minus the $25 non-refundable registration fee. Cancellations after the first class will receive a refund, minus a pro-rate for the first class and the $25 non-refundable registration fee. There will be no refunds given after the second class.

Workshop: Master the Craft of Oral Storytelling

Saturday, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. at the Playhouse

Cost: $50

Our lives are full of compelling stories that are waiting to be heard by others. True Theatre of Cincinnati will host an oral storytelling workshop in conjunction with the Playhouse to help you find your story and share it with others. Through a comprehensive, two-hour workshop, learn the essentials of oral storytelling that will engage listeners, initiate discussion and create a sense of community. Space is limited for this event.

Tall Tales

Saturdays, Sept. 9 - Nov. 4 (no class Sept. 30) • 10-10:30 a.m.

Pre-kindergarten • Tuition: $95*

Meet the heroes and heroines of folklore! From Paul Bunyan to Johnny Appleseed and more, we'll explore one adventurous story after another. Use your imagination to develop acting skills and make new friends!

Detective Stories

Saturdays, Sept. 9 - Nov. 4 (no class Sept. 30) • 10:40 - 11:25 a.m.

Kindergarten through second grade • Tuition: $140*

There's been a terrible crime and we need to figure out who did it! Put your problem-solving skills and imagination to the test and learn all about acting and collaboration. Will you be the next Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew?

Twisted Grimm

Saturdays, Sept. 9 - Nov. 4 (no class Sept. 30) • 11:35 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Third through fifth grade • Tuition: $155*

What scary surprises await Hansel and Gretel at the witch's house in the original fairy tale? Explore the dark and twisted side of the Grimm Brothers' classic children's stories while working on acting technique and ensemble building.

Performance Workshop: SLEEPY HOLLOW

Mondays, Sept. 11 - Oct. 30 • 4-5:30 p.m.

Fifth through eighth grade • Tuition: $245*

Strange things keep happening in the town of Sleepy Hollow. Explore the legend of the Headless Horseman as we bring to life scenes from this classic tale. Enhance your acting, voice and movement skills in this performance-based class. Students will perform scenes on the last day of class for friends and family.

Creativenture Classes

Our 30-minute classes for children ages 3 and 4 focus on social and artistic development through improvisation, theatre games and a visual art component. We teach students how to band together as an ensemble and use their voices, bodies and imaginations to create complex tales and characters. Stories will be shared with families on the final day of class.

Dramaventure Classes

Our 45-minute classes for young performers in kindergarten through third grade focus on social and artistic development through creative dramatics, improvisation and theatre games. We teach students how to band together as an ensemble and use their voices, bodies and imaginations to create complex tales and characters. Stories will be shared with families on the final day of class.

Actor Quest Classes

Our 55-minute classes for young performers in fourth through eighth grades focus on developing the craft and technique of acting, as well as specialty subjects including voice, movement, improvisation, stage combat and makeup through fun exploration and ensemble building. We value process over product as young actors develop their skills and confidence. Class work will be shared with families on the final day of class.

Adult Workshops

Our adult workshops offer an opportunity for audiences to enhance their experience with select productions. We seek to create an environment that fosters curiosity, conversation and personal discovery. Please check back soon for upcoming adult workshops.
