CINCINNATI PLAYHOUSE IN THE PARK’S SUMMER THEATRE DAY CAMP PREPARES A NEW GENERATION OF YOUNG ACTORS

Several new options introduced this year as first sessions begin June 19

(CINCINNATI) – The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s stages will be bustling with talent this summer as young people from across the Tristate explore the exciting world of acting and learn from some of the area’s best teachers at the Playhouse’s Summer Theatre Day Camp. The Playhouse will turn the spotlights on them as they explore everything from improvisation to Broadway-style singing and dancing techniques. The first camp sessions begin on June 19.

New this year, one-week Creative Dramatics Camps let children as young as 5 in on the fun. Also this year, a second session has been added for the very popular Teen’s Musical Theatre Camp. Regular classes are grouped into age categories beginning with students preparing to enter the third and fourth grades and continuing through high school.

Campers can experience the thrill of live theatre firsthand as they learn basic performing techniques. Additionally, they can meet new friends and gain self-esteem, all while having a great time. Summer Theatre Day Camp classes provide an in-depth exploration of various acting skills, which also include creative movement and monologue and scene study. Most importantly, students get the chance to work with some of the best theatre teachers and professionals in the city.

All classes take place in a friendly and non-intimidating learning environment. No previous acting or performing experience is required to participate.

The first two-week sessions begin June 19 and continue through June 30. Additional sessions run July 10 through July 21 and July 24 through August 4. Classes are scheduled Monday through Friday for half of each day, with morning and afternoon time slots available for many sessions.

All camps conclude with a performance project in which students demonstrate learned skills for family and friends. The performance takes place in the Playhouse’s Marx Theatre, allowing campers the chance to act on the same stage as the Playhouse’s professional actors. The cost for each two-week session is $250, while the Creative Dramatics one-week sessions for young students are $100. A very limited number of scholarships are available based on financial need and merit.
