CINCINNATI PLAYHOUSE IN THE PARK INVITES APPLICANTS FOR ACTING INTERNSHIPS FOR 2004-2005 SEASON

Deadline to submit materials for consideration is February 15

(CINCINNATI) – The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is seeking applicants for several paid acting internships available for the theatre’s 2004-2005 season. Internships are full-time commitments beginning in August 2004 and continuing through June 2005.

Playhouse interns enjoy a number of opportunities that help them make an easier transition from the educational to professional theatre setting. Interns attend workshops and classes taught by resident and visiting artists, perform as the Skilken/Brown Touring Company in plays for young people that tour to schools throughout the region and appear in the Playhouse’s annual mainstage holiday production of A Christmas Carol. In addition, they also understudy roles in other Playhouse productions and fulfill crew assignments throughout the season. In past years, the Playhouse also has produced an intern show at the season’s end and helped to organize a showcase for interns with New York City casting directors and agents.

Interns will receive a stipend and have the opportunity to earn points toward the Actors’ Equity Association Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) Program. The Playhouse prefers recent graduates of Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree programs, although other applicants will be considered.

The opportunities available for acting internships for the 2004-2005 season do not replace the Playhouse’s partnership with Ohio University, in which the school’s MFA candidates spend their third and final year interning at the Playhouse. When Ohio University changed chairmanship of its Professional Actor Training Program several years ago, they chose not to recruit a class of MFA students until that transition was complete, leaving the Playhouse without an intern company
for the upcoming season. The Playhouse expects to resume its partnership with Ohio University for its 2005-2006 intern class.

Those interested in applying for the acting internships should submit a headshot and resume (including contact information), along with two letters of recommendation to the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, ATTN: Bert Goldstein, Director of Education, P. O. Box 6537, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45206. No phone calls please. To be considered, all information must be received at the Playhouse by February 15.

Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Edward Stern and Executive Director Buzz Ward, the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is now in its 44th season as one of the nation’s leading professional regional theatres. The not-for-profit Playhouse produces 11 shows in its two-theatre complex and attracts more than 200,000 people each year. The Playhouse is a member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT).

Playhouse artists fly to and from Cincinnati on Delta Connection COMAIR, the Playhouse’s official airline.

The Playhouse is supported, in part, by the generosity of the tens of thousands of individuals and businesses that give to the Fine Arts Fund.

The Ohio Arts Council helps fund the Playhouse with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.

The Playhouse also receives funding from the City of Cincinnati.
