KIDS CAN HAVE FUN AND LEARN TO ACT AT CINCINNATI
PLAYHOUSE IN THE PARK’S SUMMER THEATRE DAY CAMP
First of three two-week sessions begins June
13
(CINCINNATI) – Young people interested in the exciting world of
acting can learn from some of the area’s best teachers at the Cincinnati
Playhouse in the Park’s Summer Theatre Day Camp. The Playhouse
will turn the spotlights on them as they explore everything from improvisation
to Broadway-style singing and dancing techniques. The first of three
two-week camp sessions begins on June 13.
Campers can meet new friends, gain self-esteem and confidence and learn the
process and technique of performing, all while having a great time. Summer
Theatre Day Camp classes provide in-depth explorations of various acting skills,
which also include creative movement and monologue and scene study. Most importantly,
students get the chance to work with some of the best theatre teachers and
professionals in the city, many of whom have advanced degrees in theatre and
have performed at the Playhouse.
Classes are grouped into age categories beginning with students preparing to
enter the third and fourth grades and continuing through high school. All classes
take place in a friendly and non-intimidating learning environment. No previous
acting or performing experience is required to participate. Previous campers
have worked on scenes from plays ranging from Jack and the Beanstalk and Anne
of Green Gables to The Crucible, The Importance of Being
Earnest and A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as selections
from musicals including Grease, Chicago, Hairspray and The
Lion King.
The first two-week session begins June 13 and continues through June 24. Additional
sessions run July 11 through July 22 and July 25 through August 5. Classes
are scheduled Monday through Friday for half of each day, with morning and
afternoon time slots available for many sessions.
All camps conclude with a performance project in which students demonstrate
learned skills for family and friends which takes place in the Playhouse’s
Marx Theatre, allowing campers the chance to act on the same stage as the Playhouse’s
professional actors. The cost is $250. A limited number of scholarships are
available based on financial need and merit.
