Creative Dramatics
Saturdays, April 5,12,19 and 26

One of our most popular classes, Creative Dramatics is a natural extension of children’s play. The class harnesses students’ creative energies and focuses them on basic theatre activities. Fast paced and lively, classes encourage students to explore storytelling, creative movement, imaginative play and theatre games.

Children’s Acting
Mondays, April 7 to May 19
4:00 - 5:45p.m.
Ages: 8 - 10

This is the perfect introductory class for every child who always has wanted to try acting. Full of variety, the class allows children to learn acting through improvisation, theatre games, storytelling and creative movement with an emphasis on working together as a team. The class is designed to sharpen imaginations and build confidence — all in the spirit of having a great time!

Juniors’ Acting
Mondays, April 7 to May 19
4:00pm – 5:45pm

This fast-moving class for juniors offers a fun and challenging acting experience for the young novice or the student with some experience. Using theatre games, creative movement, mime and activities that encourage collaborative skills, students gain a basic understanding of what acting is all about.

Teen Acting
Saturdays, April 5 to May 17

The development of the young actor is accomplished by teaching students how to transfer creativity, spontaneity and energy into the tools necessary to perform as an actor. Improvisation, theatre games, voice and movement activities and monologues from plays will be used to explore the fundamentals of acting.

Television Acting for Teens
Mondays, April 7 to May 19
6:00 - 7:45p.m.
Ages: 14 - 17

This class is designed to help young people explore all aspects of the craft of acting for the camera. Acting styles for both commercials and television series will be explored. Students will work in front of the camera at every class. Parents are invited to the final class where an informal presentation of student work will be shown followed by a discussion of the business aspects of television and film acting work in our local market. Students will have the opportunity to show their work to a professional talent agent.

Introduction to Acting
Mondays, April 7 to May 19

This class offers a fundamental approach to acting for the beginner in an entertaining and non-competitive environment. Acting concepts and techniques will be explored through theatre games, sensory exercises, improvisation, movement and self-awareness. Students will have some opportunity to work on scripted material as well. This popular class offers hands-on insight into the fascinating world of acting in a way that is both accessible and fun.

Intermediate Acting
Mondays, April 7 to May 19
8:00 - 9:45p.m.
Ages: 18 and up

This course requires some previous study in acting at the Playhouse or elsewhere.

This class is a logical progression from Introduction to Acting.
The primary focus will be on character development through improvisation, text and script analysis. Students will work on scenes and monologues from plays and have the chance to apply the various acting skills they’ve studied.

Television Acting for Adults
Mondays, April 7 to May 19
8:00pm – 9:45pm
Ages: 18 and up
Fee: $165
Instructor: Dewey Hawthorne

Lights! Camera! Action! Professional actors will tell you that acting for the camera is very different from acting for the stage. In Television Acting for Adults, students will have the unique opportunity to learn the basic skills of performing in front of the camera. Course work will include experience with commercial and TV acting techniques, voiceovers, industrial films and spokesperson spots. Students will work in front of the camera at each class. Tips on auditioning and marketing yourself also will be included. Students will be able to show their work to a local professional talent agent on the last day of class.
