FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CINCINNATI PLAYHOUSE IN THE PARK PRESENTS CRAIG LUCAS’ QUIRKY COMEDY RECKLESS, MARCH 6-APRIL 6 (CINCINNATI) – The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park continues its Marx Theatre season with Craig Lucas’ quirky and very dark comedy, Reckless. The show — about the journey of a woman literally running for her life — begins public previews on March 6 and continues through April 6, 2007. At home on Christmas Eve, Rachel is basking in the glow of her favorite holiday. Rachel loves everything about Christmas — Santa Claus, presents, the excitement of her two children, the snow falling outside. In fact, Rachel is practically euphoric, which is why she is surprised when her husband suddenly starts crying. Turns out, he’s taken a contract on her life, and the hit man is scheduled to arrive at their home to kill Rachel at any minute. With the sound of breaking glass below, Rachel slips out the bedroom window. What follows for Rachel is a series of hilarious, harrowing and somewhat surreal escapades involving a strange and secretive couple, a bizarre game show, numerous psychiatrists and even an ill-fated reunion with her husband. Mixing fantasy with realism, Reckless is about sudden tragedy, outrageous fortune and finding your bliss. Reckless first was staged in an earlier form by The Production Company in 1983. The first performance of the original published version of the script occurred in 1988 at New York's Circle Repertory Company. The show also was adapted into a feature film starring Mia Farrow in 1995 and received its Broadway premiere starring Mary-Louise Parker in 2004.
