The Playhouse is pleased to offer a variety of services to patrons with special needs. Included are an infrared sound enhancement system for the hearing impaired, large print programs, wheelchair access to both theatres and all public areas, as well as audio described and signed performances.

Facility Access - The Playhouse easily can accommodate mobility-impaired patrons in both theatres. A curbside drop-off area offers direct access to the street level box office, lobby and elevator to theatre level. Parking for those with disabilities is located in front of the main entrance as well as in the Playhouse parking garage. Parking for persons with disabilities also is limited and must be reserved and paid in advance. All vehicles using these spaces must display a disability sticker. Wheelchair seating in the theatres is subject to availability and should be requested at the time of ticket reservation.

Audio Description - The Playhouse was the first theatre in Ohio to offer regularly scheduled audio description for the visually-impaired. The service is comprised of trained volunteers describing the visual elements of the production via a closed-circuit receiver. The receiver is approximately the size of a deck of cards and fits into a jacket pocket or on the lap. A small earpiece fits into one ear, allowing patrons to hear the dialogue, music and other sound effects. Description is timed so as not to interfere with the dialogue. Before the show and during intermission, show and actor information are shared. The service is free and is offered on the first Saturday of each production in the Marx Theatre. A receiver, and instruction in its use, can be obtained at the Manuel D. and Rhoda Mayerson Foundation patron services booth in the Rosenthal Plaza. Specific audio description dates are listed along with show information for each Marx production.

Large Print Programs are available by request from ushers in both theatres.

Signed Performances - Each Marx Theatre production is signed on the first Sunday of the show's run. See the specific show listings for the exact date. Funding for this program is made possible by Bartlett & Co.

Hearing Enhancement System - The volume of any performance can be raised thanks to Telex FM equipment from Bethesda Hospitals. The free service uses the same technology used for Audio Description and is available in both theatres. Receivers can be picked up in the Marx lobby prior to curtain.
