COVID-19 Health & Safety Come First!

The safety and well-being of our patrons, artists and staff is our top priority. As we prepare to welcome audiences back to the Marx Theatre for a series of special events, please read about the measures we have put in place to make your experience as safe and touch-free as possible.

General Guidelines

• Patrons and staff must wear face masks at all times.
• As a gathering permitted by the State of Ohio and the City of Cincinnati, the Marx Theatre seating has been reduced for proper social distancing to a maximum of 30-percent capacity.
• When tickets are purchased (and also upon arrival at the theatre), patrons will be required to verify that everyone in their socially distanced seating group is part of the same household and that they have had no known contact or symptoms related to COVID-19.
• The lobby spaces and onsite Box Office will be open to the public 30 minutes prior to curtain.
• While in the lobby spaces, we ask that you socially distance from folks who are outside your party.
If you are feeling ill or showing any symptoms, please stay home. Please call the Box Office to receive a refund or donate your tickets.
• In advance of your performance, you will receive an email with any updated guidelines in accordance with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State of Ohio and/or the City of Cincinnati.

Cleaning Protocols

• All public spaces are cleaned nightly and between matinee and evening performances. Cleaning procedures will utilize CDC-approved disinfecting solutions to thoroughly clean door handles, stair railings, seating arm rests, counters, tables, chairs, the elevator and other shared surfaces after every performance.
• We are making touchless hand-sanitizer and disinfecting-wipe stations available throughout the building.

Air Flow

• The Playhouse has a continuous air-flow system. We will increase the outside air to the maximum percentage that the system can handle.
• We have upgraded the air filters to MERV11 efficiency filters for all the air-handling units throughout the building. Evaporator coils have been deep cleaned and disinfected.

Tickets and Seating

What's happening onstage?

A Christmas Carol is cancelled and the 2020-21 mainstage season is postponed until Fall 2021, but we will still have special performances, events and alternative programming to share this year. Read more about the season and these decisions in our season FAQs.

FAQs

• Tickets must be purchased in advance over the phone or on our website.
• As a gathering approved by the State of Ohio and the City of Cincinnati, seating has been reduced for proper social distancing to a maximum of 30 percent, or 190 seats in the Marx Theatre. (The normal capacity in the Marx is 626 seats).
Everyone in your seating group should be members of your household. Please, only purchase a seating group that matches the size of your party. We reserve the right to change your seats to ensure safety and maximize attendance.
Tickets will be digital or print-at-home with contactless ticket scanning at the theatre. They will be sent three days prior to your performance via email.

Arrival, Entry and Exit

• The lobby spaces and onsite Box Office will be open to the public 30 minutes prior to curtain.
Free parking! Parking in the Playhouse garage is complimentary at this time and does not need to be reserved in advance.
• When you arrive in the theatre, your tickets will be scanned in the lower lobby at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the main lobby. For this reason, you must enter through the main doors on the south side of the building, facing Mt. Adams. The north doors, facing the Art Museum, will be exit only.
• To minimize congregating in the lobby, you’ll go directly to the theatre to be seated.
• Due to social-distancing and safety protocols, there will be NO late seating. Tickets will be refunded if you miss the start of the show.
• To maintain social distance when exiting, we will ask you to exit by row and you will be directed to use the nearest exit — some of which lead directly to the parking lot. It is understood that some patrons who are seated in further sections may need to use the elevators or restrooms, and we will work with them on the best socially distanced way to exit the theatre and/or lobbies.

Concessions and Other Services

Drinks may or may not be available for purchase based on safety recommendations at the time of the performances. We will let you know the plan in the email you’ll receive with your tickets three days prior to your performance. If beverage service is provided, patrons may lift their masks to take a sip from a beverage or access via a straw under their masks, but masks cannot be completely removed while drinking beverages.
The Coat Check will be closed, but there is plenty of room to bring your coat into the theatre with the socially distanced seating.
• Unfortunately, there will be no food service at this time.
